100% of the funds raised through the first Food Revolution Day on May 19 have gone directly to food education projects in the UK, US and Australia.
After 1000 events in 62 countries across 664 cities made the first ever Food Revolution Day a wonderful success and showed the demand for real food and better food education in homes, schools, communities and businesses, thousands of dollars were raised by individuals and communities to support the roll out of better food education through Jamie’s foundation projects. We are proud to say that 100% of the Food Revolution Day 2012 funds have gone directly towards these projects in the UK, US and Australia and are happy to report the latest on how these are shaping up.
Learning Your Fruits and Vegetables
As part of Jamie’s Kitchen Garden Project, the Jamie Oliver Foundation has teamed up with Abel & Cole, to launch The Food Education Box project in the UK. Funds from Food Revolution Day enabled them to provide the first year of the scheme completely free for 25 schools across the UK!
The schools will receive 10 boxes of fruit and vegetables - one per month across the school year - with all the resources they’ll need to teach a class of Key Stage 2 children (7 – 11 year olds) a fun and educational food-based lesson. The boxes, delivered by Abel & Cole, will also include some additional ingredients to complement the produce, a recipe card to make a simple Jamie Oliver recipe, and some fun facts to keep the children engaged and entertained.

The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation has teamed up with The Boys and Girls Club of America to launch the Learn Your Fruits and Vegetables program in the US and is initially rolling out at New York and Los Angeles clubs, for free, with funds raised through Food Revolution Day.
This introductory program consists of 14 fresh fruit and vegetable lesson plans based created in parallel to the Food Education Box materials in the UK. Each lesson plan focuses on a particular fruit or vegetable along with a recipe and fun facts. They have extended activities as well to engage students and extend the level of learning. They can be taught in the classroom, at an afterschool program or for adults in the workplace. This course builds a foundation to get anyone eating more fruits and vegetables and to trying new ones they are not so familiar with, while also learning about where the fruit and veg comes from and why they are good for them.

Hands-on Cooking Skills
In Australia, funds have gone towards delivering food education classes at Jamie’s Ministry of Food in Ipswich, Queensland, run in partnership with The Good Foundation. Exciting news is that The Good Foundation has also recently announced the establishment of Jamie’s Ministry of Food so food education will now extend to Victorians as well as Queenslanders!
