Experts Share Their Knowledge On Food Revolution Day

Food Revolution Day is almost here, and there are some amazing events planned worldwide, from dinner parties and community picnics to cooking classes and real food festivals. We’re amazed at how many people are connecting with their communities and joining us in standing up for real food this weekend.

The support Food Revolution Day has received from people all over the world, who are getting involved, sharing their knowledge and passing on their expertise to their community, is truly amazing. Here are some of the events planned by some great chefs and food educators across the world.

Robyn O’Brien Dumps The Junk in Boulder, Colorado



Robyn O’Brien, author, AllergyKids’ founder and a Boulder mom of four is hosting a Food Revolution Day event at the Boulder Farmers Market this Saturday. The Food Swap: Dump the Junk kicks off at 10am on Saturday morning, you can bring any piece of junk food or processed food (anything nutrient nutrient-void kind that packs nothing but calories and added sugar) to the Boulder Farmers' Market and swap it out for some delicious nutrient rich real food. On hand will be the produce and products of some of Boulder’s most amazing companies, local farms and vendors, there will also be games for the kids and an adult-sized spelling bee sure to leave you absolutely stumped!

Joe Cross Joins The Food Revolution In Melbourne, Australia



The Food Revolution Day team in Melbourne, Lianne from eat mORganics and Adelle from Vegie Head, are have pulled together a great event for Food Revolution Day with the inspiring Joe Cross. On May 19 Joe will be hosting a talk about healthy eating and how he turned his life around through food, at the Sugar Reef St Kilda. A screening of Joe’s film ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead’ will also take place during the event, in order to inspire the community to think about the food choices they make. A Food Revolution Day Farmers’ Market Boot Camp With Darya Pino



Going to the farmers market can be intimidating if you don't know your way around. This Saturday, farmers’ market veteran, Darya Pino, will be hosting a Summer Tomato Farmers’ Market Boot Camp for Food Revolution Day. At 9.30am, a group will be gathering at the San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, and will take a tour where Darya will share top tips on what to bring when shopping at a farmers’ market, what’s in season, where to find the best deals and how to shop strategically so your food stays fresh all week.

Telepan Hosts A Social Dining Experience



Bill Telepan’s restaurant in New York is serving a Seasonal 4-course Chef's Tasting Menu with Wine Pairing for 12 guests on May 19th at 7.30pm EST. The Telepan event is one of the unique social dining experiences we have partnered with Grubwithus on for Food Revolution Day. Diners reserve individual seats and join tables of other social diners at the event, a great way to enjoy amazing real food at top restaurants and connect with other likeminded people to start the conversation on local food issues.

In Caracas, Venezuela a number of events are planned for Food Revolution Day, in which the community are gathering together to raise their voices for a healthy diet and lifestyle, and the inclusion of food and nutrition education in schools. One of the main events taking place is an activity panel called “The destiny of the nation resides on what they eat”, featuring top chef, writer, editor, entrepreneur, educator, radio and TV personality, Victor Moreno. Following the activity panel, Victor will also be leading a cooking demonstration, sharing a recipe for a healthy lunch with the Caracas community. Kennesaw’s Fit City Program Joins the Jamie Oliver Food Revolution



In support of its Fit City Kennesaw program which focuses attention on wellness and nutrition and encourages active, healthy lifestyles, a cooking class called “See It, Make It, Eat It” will be held on Saturday, May 19 for Food Revolution Day. Participants will be taught how to prepare various healthy goods, from breakfast dishes, and main courses to side items and desserts. “The cooking classes we’re hosting will give people the opportunity to get hands-on experience with lots of healthy foods they probably don’t even know about. We hope it will be interesting, educational, and most of all, fun!” - Cris Welsh, Kennesaw Mayor Pro-Tem and Fit City Kennesaw director.

The Mayor and City Council of Kennesaw have also set forth a proclamation naming May 19th Food Revolution Day in Kennesaw!

Food Revolution Day in Milan with Marco Bianchi



A number of events are taking place in Milan for Food Revolution Day, with the main one taking place in a restaurant with over 200 people attending. At this event high level nutritionists and professors from both the University and Hospital will be attending and talking to the community about nutrition and the importance of a real food diet. Marco Bianchi, chef, food educator and researcher, will also be attending the event along with Paola Maugeri and a number of food bloggers. Not only will there be information and advice from professionals, including specialist nutritionists on hand to talk about nutrition and food for expectant mothers and young children, but there will also be a great buffet with healthy versions of local traditional food!
