"Rules and pie crusts are made to be broken"

We're a competitive bunch, so when it turned out a few of us were planning to make a pie at the weekend, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for a competition.

We decided on loose-ish rules, allowing for some personal interpretation of the term 'pie' (ahem...Adrienne!)

The entrants and their pies were as follows:

Julia Hall (promotions manager) with a traditional apple pie
Helen Little (freelance designer) with a pizza rustica (Italian pork pie), above right
Georgia Levy (editorial assistant) with a coq au vin pie, above left
Adrienne Pitts (art director) with a lemon ripple tart, above middle

We called in Georgie and Laura from the food team to do some blind judging. We watched them nervously as they chewed, waiting to see who they would decide was the best person - sorry - best cook.

The votes were in, and the decision was unanimous...

Georgia's coq au vin pie was By Far The Best, with Adrienne's familiar lemon tart (see recipe) coming 2nd, Helen's delicious pizza rustica coming in 3rd and Julia's fab apple pie coming in 4th.

What shall we do next? The pies the limit!
