My 14 year old son just cooked 7 of us the Fish Tray Bake & Cheat's Banoffee Pie.
The whole meal looked exactly like the pics in the book - the taste was exquisite!

try adding hot or warm milk on your banana blitz so the caramel won't solidify once you pour in the smoothie.

Blitzed bananas:

2 bananas + 100 ml skimmed milk. Blitz in a blender till smooth.

Coffee syrup: Camp coffee or Bushells Coffee & Chicory Essence (in Australia)

hi guys,

so i just watched this on television.

Jamie used two bananas and a swig of milk. Poured it straight into the centre of the caramel and then began stirring with a spoon, until the consistancy was right. it had a few small lumps of hard caramel in it but he said that didn't matter. I haven't had a go at making it yet though so hopefully that helps you all. and yes, he used a pre-bought pie base.

I did this two days ago and Jonny is right, the cold bananas hitting the caramel do turn it solid. But Jonny, persevere, I left mine on the heat for longer than they suggest and the heat melts it down again. All in all, it was gorgeous and my family thought so too.

im sure that jamie used condensed milk, but other recipes say that this takes 2/3 hours to boil. did jamie use condensed milk?

I used soft demarera sugar instead of golden castor; it makes a darker caramel but as it's less refined it melts easier and mixes well with the 'smoothie' mix.

Tip: Gently push the melted sugar over to one side of the pan and slowly pour the banana and milk mix into the other side, allow the mix to heat and start to bubble a little before mixing with the sugar, that way no sugar crystals are formed, just a nice smooth caramel.

Does anyone have some info on the 'blitzed bananas' component? Is it just bananas and if so, how many. But that mixture she pours in seems a lot runnier - does it have some milk/cream in it and if so, how much?

don't stress people... it was just on tv which is why this is so vague...

follow the banana blitz instructions that Marie has above, add this to your melted sugar and stir continuously until it's how you want it, took him a couple of minutes max. the pie base was bought, otherwise it wouldn't be a 30min meall...

easy :)

Relatively easy to do but nothing at all about the pastry base, no cooking instructions either in the book or on this site. Only gripe with this recipe.

lets face it the reason the instructions are so vague is because it is impossible to make!! as soon as the cold banana hits the boling sugar you have cement within seconds - can you tell I am disappointed :-(

Can we have better instructions please or does this recipe just not work!!

peel 2 of the bananas and blitz them with 100ml of milk in a liquidizer until you have a smoothie consistency.

She says to add the banana blitz......but how do you make the banana blitz??! what does it contain? just cream and banana I presume??
