Ok I went to Salvation Army for help today and they where giving out free donuts and not one but a whole box of donuts. My kids are two and four and they gave me two boxes, ok we need to give each other a apple or carrots or strawberries. I have been classified as ADD which the meds and what they did sucked. I am twenty seven and do not recommend for any kids to be on that medication. My son that is four is very hard to keep him still and wants to go and do. Medication someone told me WHAT. If i could afford soccer or some type of sport for him even to have the money to go and do with him i would . Anyway yeah their helping the poor become fat we get food stamps ppl . We can do something about this but what America Free ha. God bless

FYI: a possible food partner....
excerpt from California CALPIRG member email

Our citizen outreach team will have more than 65,000 face-to-face conversations with Californians. The grassroots power that these conversations build will allow us to stand up to big agribusiness companies like Monsanto and fight back against wasteful subsidies for unhealthy food.

We’ll continue to build our membership, which means more people like you who allow us to sustain a truly citizen-supported organization—one that is accountable to ordinary Americans, not wealthy special interests.

As a result of this citizen-powered campaign, when CALPIRG advocates meet with decision-makers in Sacramento, they’ll have the backing of thousands of citizens—exactly what it takes to counter the influence of powerful special interests.

I look forward to reporting back on our progress. I hope you and your neighbors will be able to get involved.

Sincerely,

Emily Rusch
CALPIRG State Director

Low cost junk food floods store shelves

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK—Taxpayer subsidies have driven down the cost of unhealthy food over the last 15 years.
Junk Food Subsidies Fuel Obesity

Nearly one in three kids in California are overweight or obese, and our taxpayer dollars are subsidizing unhealthy food—to the tune of $245 billion over the last 15 years.

As a result, in the last 20 years, the price of soda has gone down by more than 20 percent while the price of fresh fruits and vegetables has increased 40 percent.

CALPIRG is calling for reform. Read more . . .

USDA Mandates Safer School Lunches

For years, California's schoolchildren ate beef, chicken and other foods that would have been rejected as substandard even by fast-food chains.

Now, thanks in part to our advocacy, the USDA has set stronger standards for school lunches, including a ban on low-grade meat.

Hi Jamie,
We seem to be slowly losing alot of our freedom in this country.
I feel like big business is influencing government more and more and the middle class is
slowly disappearing so there will only be the rich and poor. The people protesting in Wisconsin had also to do with laws being passed to prevent unions from giving people the right to strike - which is the beginning of a really big loss of freedom if you ask me!
Also social security which is taken out of our pay checks for our retirement we are told is going bankrupt, and the government debats doing away with it - I worry for our children and grandchildrens' futures without it.
I think your running in to redtape just represents more of the people in charge not being interested in or wanting to deal with problems in order to give people what they would really want given the choice.
Dont get discouraged though - On a more positive note, the state of Minnesota that I live in has had state law changes requiring restaurants to show calories in fast food. Wendys is a fast food chain with a healthy menu. The health care industry in Minnesota in response to lowering health care costs is getting more and more into preventative medicine including more focus on diet and exercise in diabetes and heart care. Thankyou for helping us. Marlene V.

Hey Jamie,
I'm a 13 year old girl and I 100% agree with everything you are trying to do. Our school lunches aren't as healthy as they should be. At my school we have strawberry and chocolate milk along with the plain white milk and almost all the kids get the flavored but whenever I buy lunch I make sure I get the plain milk. I try to eat healthy and I watch your show whenever it's on. I absolutely love it and I also signed your petition! :D

In an age when we have video surveillance in our day cares and schools to prevent children from being molested or otherwise harmed, it is difficult to believe that Jamie couldn't look in the windows of that school cafeteria. What if we had video surveillance in the kitchen of the schools?? In an institution of trust with children's welfare - shouldn't anyone have the public right to observe what is going on? And if what they are hiding isn’t in the children’s best interest- shouldn't child welfare be contacted? Aren't these institutions of trust accountable to Child Welfare? Perhaps they could help Jamie on his crusade for revolution. Just a thought.

I have one question to ask...why are you pursuing school districts and not pursuing USDA and FDA? Why are you not going to Washington DC where programs are developed and rolled out? How are schools going to be able to make change without change happening from the policy makers in government. Please elaborate on what your goal is with pursuing schools. How much can they change on the school level regarding government regluation and government programs? If you want change why not go to Washington DC and work with key people who set up and roll out the national school lunch and breakfast programs. The people at the school level are not to blame for your concerns. I am interested in your thoughts on this...

Good for you Jamie. I'm a Brit now living here in the States and I am so glad you're finally here doing what you do best - educating and transforming people's lives. I've lived all over the world and little has shocked me as much as the lack of education about the poison people fill themselves with every day in a country that supposedly leads the world in terms of development. Rock on dude, and thank goodness you've arrived.

Hi Jamie! Please come to my home lol! We live in Nashville, TN - one of the FATTEST cities in America and I'm one of the 'guilty'. But I'm not giving up on this life yet and I'm not giving up on my grandbabies so I'm fired up about what it is you are doing. The recipes on your sight look AMAZING, but some of the wording and measurements are foreign to me so I'm hoping you will be converting more of the recipes soon. THANK YOU for doing this...and I'm serious about coming to my home. My door is always open to you!

Hi Jamie , I'm a single mom raising two kids , and i do try to give my kids healthy snacks when they are at home , once in a wail , i let them have junk foods ,but not a lot of it but i do try .I think ,the school lunches up hear are not to bad ,they are trying to give them healthy foods , they even took out the soda machines , put in water and juice machines . If you could send some recipe that are healthy with out having meat all the time that would be good . I try to stay away from red meat some what and we don't eat pork at all .

This is terrific that you're doing this! I have family in Huntington, from my maternal line. Many of them have been obese and righted themselves through wise choices, but I still have a few relatives who are struggling. Good on you and those who take up your cause there as well as around the world.
