#adenough campaign - Jamie has hands over eyes

Our jargon-free guide to completing the government survey

Big news. You said you’d #AdEnough, and the UK government is listening.

As part of its strategy to address child obesity, the government is considering a 9pm watershed on junk food across all the media kids see (including on TV and online).

This is an unmissable chance to have a positive impact on kids’ everyday food choices.

THIS IS A CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY

Evidence shows that these ads make kids eat more. By filling in this consultation we can make a positive impact on our kids’ food choices, and give healthy food a bigger voice.

HOW?

Complete this government survey, to tell them what you think. It shouldn’t take too long at all with our easy guide!

OR: if you really don’t have time, you can email your opinion to childhood.obesity@dhsc.gov.uk

PLUS, WE’RE HERE TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE JARGON

IN 5 SIMPLE STEPS:

It’s not the most user-friendly survey, so here’s our 5-step guide. This is our view – you can of course say whatever you like – and you don’t have to answer every question.

First, fill in your personal details

Easy peasy. We’ll leave that to you!

  1. Media in scope

Q: Do you think that we need additional advertising restrictions?

A: Yes!

  1. Food and drink in scope

Q; Do you agree with the definition of what junk food actually is?

A: Yes!

  1. Broadcast consultation options

Q: Which option do you prefer – ranging from a 9pm watershed to no action at all?

A: Option 1

You can scroll down and explain your answer. Here’s why we support option 1:

  • Advertising is really powerful, why else would companies spend billions on it?
  • In 2017 it was estimated that kids were exposed to 3.6 billion junk food ads on TV
  • 70% of the public want a 9pm watershed!

  1. Online consultation options

Q: What needs to happen on the internet – ranging from a 9pm watershed to no action at all?

A: Option 1

You can scroll down and explain your answer. Here’s why we support option 1:

  • In 2017 experts estimated kids had seen 700 million ads for junk food online

  1. Implementation and next steps

Q: Should the watershed happen across the board, at the same time?

A: Yes! That’s a no brainer for us. Clear for parents and a level playing field.
