Doing our bit to help the environment and cut down our plastic use

We’re not just passionate about bringing you the best, most ethically sourced food and drink we can find, we’re also keen to do our bit for the environment. That’s why we’ve decided to ditch plastic straws in all 36 of our UK restaurants and introduce brand new ones made using no plastic at all.

Did you know that single-use plastic straws are used for an average of just 20 minutes, but can last for up to 600 years? Many of them find their way into our oceans and have a really harmful effect on marine life – in fact, it’s estimated that there are over 5.5 trillion pieces of plastic currently in our oceans and over 8 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the sea each year. We’ve taken the Plastic Free Pledge, a nationwide campaign that calls on both individuals and organisations to ‘pledge’ voluntarily to remove single-use plastic from their day-to-day lives, starting with straws.

Our new straws are made of corn starch – which is completely biodegradable – and come from  our friends over at Vegware, a company who use plants to make their products. Make sure to check out the straws next time you come in – let us know what you think, and why not take the Plastic Free Pledge yourself?
