Story by Louisa James

A little over 12 months ago, Jamie and his team started working on an application for the iPhone. Apps, as they are called, were a relatively new phenomenon but since the App store launched in 2008 some 225,000 applications have been developed. We’d wanted to do one for a while but were waiting for the right time and right partners to come along. We found the right partners in Zolmo, a small and new agency made up of a young team of incredibly talented designers and developers.

20 minute meals launched in October 2009 and whilst we were incredibly proud of what we had produced (in record breaking time!), we didn’t really expect the success which ensued. The app quickly reached the top of the charts in both the UK and across the world and it remains at the top of the lifestyle charts in the UK some 9 months later! It has been lauded for its innovation in design, user experience and for challenging the perception of what apps can do.
Last week we were honoured to be nominated for a coveted pencil at the D&AD Awards, the Oscars of the advertising world.

Last night we were pronounced a winner of the Apple Design Awards 2010 for best iPhone app at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

To be nominated for such an award is amazing. To win one for something which we’ve never done before is incredible. A massive thank you to everyone who worked on it.

We’ve already started work on a new app and we plan to make it even better. Watch this space!
