Christmas and party season may be over, but don’t feel down. It’s the New Year, and that means another season of Jamie & Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast starts tonight.

Every year Jamie and his best friend from school, Jimmy Doherty, cook up a storm on Southend Pier, along with more of Jamie’s buddies, some lucky diners and a special celeb guest every week.

This week might just be the best episode ever. The one and only Kate Hudson is joining them on the pier, Jamie is cooking up gourmet southern fried chicken and Jimmy, as always, it doing one of his whacky builds – this week it’s an easy homemade pizza oven made from nothing more than a few flower pots. It really works and means you can get thin, crispy pizzas in just two minutes. He’ll even show you how to make a pizza paddle.

This series is slightly different to the others though. This time, every episode Jamie and Jimmy will highlight important food issues and aim to do something about it. In tonight’s episode they look into “wonky veg” – the produce that supermarkets reject because they don’t look like the perfect veg. These vegetables and fruits are just as tasty and healthy, but instead of being sold are pretty much given away as animal feed. And it accounts for endless waste of labour, fuel, time and, of course, food.

So Jamie and Jimmy set out to sell the wonky veg to the supermarkets. And the results are surprising. Tune in tonight at 8pm on Channel 4 to find out.
