JAMIE COOKS ITALY SPECIALS: IT’S OUR LAST WEEK!
What’s that saying about all good things? It’s the final episode of Jamie Cooks Italy tonight, and we’re definitely going to miss the decadent dishes, the spectacular scenery and the no-nonsense nonnas that we’ve fallen in love with.
To ease the goodbye blues, we’ve still got our Jamie Cooks Italy menu running for one more week. That means you’ve got one last chance to try some of the treasured Italian recipes that Jamie and Gennaro discovered on their trip – including our Gnocchetti dumplings and our Sausage & red wine risotto, both of which you’ll see being cooked up on tonight’s show! For the grand finale, Jamie and Gennaro have travelled to the mountainous region of Piedmont to meet the nonnas with the ultimate word in comfort food cooking.
Here, they met the Mondine nonnas – who were seasonal rice workers in their youths – and the inspiration behind Jamie’s Sausage & red wine risotto recipe. The red wine gives a beautiful pinky colour to our Arborio risotto rice, and adds a rich depth of flavour with the fennel-spiked sausage. Bombs of melting fontina cheese and crunchy hazelnuts make this a truly satisfying dish, full of contrasting textures and deep flavour.
So come on in out of the cold – and let us put a smile on your face with a bowl of simple, hearty mountain cooking. Bravissime to the nonnas!
