The food centre in Rotherham is pretty unique. Where else can you walk in off the high street and watch a cookery demo, pick up a recipe, book in for a cooking class? I believe that if there is a food centre at the heart of every community, somewhere people can go for inspiration and help about food, we will see many more people doing more cooking at home again. I’d like to know how many of you support my belief that cooking is a foundation for a good diet and that the government should be helping people to do more in order to head off a massive health problem.
Hi Guys,
I'm massively excited about my new project, Ministry of Food and a new food movement, called Pass It On, that I'm hoping will be a huge part of it. My new book, Jamie's Ministry of Food and the TV show (also called Ministry of Food) are basically about inspiring people to get back into their kitchens and make simple, delicious food from scratch again.
Although there are loads of great things to say about the state of cooking and food in this country, there are also quite a few negatives. We Brits have one of the highest obesity rates in Europe; we love our ready meals and takeaways and seem to be eating more of them then ever. We really seem to have lost the plot a bit when it comes to passing on our cooking skills from generation to generation - so much so, that some of the people I met in my cooking classes while filming the TV show didn't know how to mash a potato.
Saying that, the fantastic thing about teaching people how to cook was that they made me realise how different this book had to be from my previous ones. That's why there are loads of photographs and really clear instructions to help show you exactly how to do everything. I’ve also included recipes that people who don’t or can’t cook told me would inspire them to give it a go. The catch with this book is that once you’ve mastered a recipe I want you teach it to two more people and then ask them to teach it to someone else. In other words… PASS IT ON!
To make it easy for everyone to get involved we've launched a
Ministry of Food website where you can all get involved so please check it out and be part of our food revolution.
