2025 Food Kindness Hero Alex Moody, Park Community Secondary School, Havant

Chef Alex and the team at Park Community Secondary are a shining example of how powerful food can be in creating incredible connections and bringing people together.

Alex caters for a busy secondary school, where he and his kitchen team manage to create affordable, delicious and nutritious meals for both students and teachers, despite rising costs. They offer a wide range of cuisines, to ensure they’re as inclusive as possible. But their catering goes well beyond the school gates.

The team at Park Community School set up a programme called Munch, a community outreach scheme that provides free after-school and school holiday meals for the most vulnerable in the community. It’s actually a vital lifeline for many people to get together over food. It offers anyone in the community a free two-course hot meal once a week, while at Christmas each year Alex cooks up a three-course dinner for up to 150 local residents who may otherwise go hungry or feel isolated over the festive period.

During school holidays, the support continues, with Alex running a free family activity club, which provides cooking sessions and a free hot meal. Then, when the school throws open its gates for special events, such as its annual circus day, up to 600 locals are welcomed with a smile and a free warm meal.

The team at Park Community School haven’t just created a kitchen, they have created a lifeline.

• Park Community School has been recognised with the Food for Life gold award for its commitment to healthy, sustainable, and ethical food practices within the school.

WHAT THE CELEB JUDGES THOUGHT

“Alex shows us what great school food is all about – community, care and proper nourishment. What he’s done with Munch is nothing short of incredible. He’s brought people together through food, made sure no one’s left behind, and proved how powerful a school kitchen can be when it opens its doors to the whole community.” Jamie Oliver

Huge thanks to our partners Tefal and technology partners Wonde for making the awards possible.
