No kidding! From the children themselves

Seeing as the Good School Food Awards are all about the kids, we thought we should hear what they think…

Finlay, from Reach Academy Feltham:

“We do family-style serving at our school, and I like serving to make sure all my friends have equal amounts and get their food. It’s important to have a good lunch at school because hot food fills you up, so you can learn really well. I think every child deserves a nice hot lunch like we do.”

Madie Toplass, from Stoke-on-Trent:

“Cooking should definitely be a part of the curriculum, because it’s something that everyone needs to do. Without it, you’re not getting the right nutrition, and without it your body won’t grow and function properly.”

Gipsy Bliss Thomas, from the King Edmund School:

“I think cooking is something you need to know, it’s a critical skill. Especially when you go on to university and your parents aren’t there and you need to cook your own meals. Healthy eating is a big thing, and cooking your own food is cheaper.”

Georgia May Norton, from the King Edmund School:

“Coming to Miss’s lessons does make me feel prepared for when I grow up – I’ll be able to cook for myself and it’ll be fine.”

“I like the mindful time at the beginning of our lunches, because it gives us a chance to think about our food, as the teachers will ask us questions about it. Having a good lunch makes me have more energy in the afternoon.”

“Generally the lunches are very good, but sometimes I don’t like it. Even then I do my best to eat all of it, because I know it’s important not to be hungry. Chef Hugo and the team always try to make us healthy with salads every day.”

“It’s important to be sustainable, because us humans have damaged the Earth because of all the pollution and chemicals we’re using. Technically, we’re trying to keep the future people safe by being sustainable. It’s better for you, better for your health, better for your body to grow organically.”
