About the recipe

I first had this in Florence for brekkie and my initial reaction, as the unworldly person that I am, was why am I having cheese for breakfast? But this combination of perfect figs and honey is amazing, different and damn tasty.

Before you say you don’t like figs . . . that’s what I used to say, remembering chewing on tough, tasteless old figs that you would have to peel the skin off. But I have been converted because the shops and supermarkets are starting to get hold of really good fresh figs, both green and purple. Slightly firm on the outside, soft and sometimes sticky in the middle, with an amazing sweet taste – unlike anything else.
