The nation’s favourite potato: crispy roasties!

May 8, 2025

Hold onto your chips… Turns out, when it comes to spuds, the classic crispy roast potato reigns supreme!

According to our recent survey, a whopping 65% of us can't resist those golden beauties, making them the undisputed king of the potato kingdom. Sorry loaded fries and fancy dauphinoise – you didn't even crack the top ten!

As Brits, our love affair with spuds is strong, with jacket potatoes and proper chip shop chips battling it out in the top five. Even humble boiled and new potatoes got some love! Jamie said:

“I love the fact that the one thing most of us Brits can get behind is a good roast potato! It’s got to be up there as one of my all-time favourites – the ultimate roastie is hard to beat.

"That’s not to say I don’t have a lot of love for other potato dishes. I can’t wait to get back down to the South West for some buttery mash; I’ll be sure to check out chippy chips the next time I’m in the West Midlands; and I agree with the East, a filled jacket potato is a thing of joy!

"But, each to their own, which is why I’ve given you lots of options in my frozen potato range.”

Turns out, we're a nation of potato enthusiasts, with loads even trying to grow their own. When it comes to the lingo, we’ll say anything from 'spud' to 'tattie', or even 'tuber' (a surprising favourite amongst Londoners).

Of course, there are a few common potato casualties, including mushy overboiled spuds and lumpy mash. And the biggest potato grumbles? Undercooked horrors and soggy chips! But fear not, potato lovers, Jamie's new range at Sainsbury's is here to ensure your spud dreams come true, every time!
