About the recipe

Delicious daal has never been easier, thanks to Jamie’s mega-convenient Dreamy Black Daal. We love serving ours with a beautifully spiced oil for extra colour and flavour.

Ingredients

1 x 250g pouch of Jamie Oliver Dreamy Black Daal

3cm piece fresh ginger

1 clove of garlic

1 fresh red chilli

olive oil

1 handful of fresh curry leaves

cooked rice and naan, to serve

Top Tip

This would be lovely served with golden paneer. Simply chop 60g of paneer into 2cm chunks, fry in a non-stick frying pan with 1 tablespoon of oil for 2 minutes on each side, or until golden, then scatter over the daal.

Method

  1. Heat the Dreamy Black Daal according to packet instructions.
  2. To make a basic flavoured oil of tempered spices, known as a tarka, first peel the ginger and garlic, then matchstick the ginger and finely slice the garlic with the chilli.
  3. Place a small frying pan on a high heat with 2 tablespoons of oil, add the ginger, garlic and chilli and fry with the curry leaves for 1 minute, or until crisp and lightly golden, stirring regularly.
  4. Divide the daal between 2 bowls, drizzle the flavoured oil over the top and serve with rice, warm naan and golden paneer (see tip), if you like.
