Whole Garam Masala
Hi I am unable to find whole Garam Masala here in oz. When I ask for it I always get told to use the powder instead. ![]()

Re: Whole Garam Masala
Well you cannot find it cos it doesn't exist as a whole...and I'm not trying to be funny here...
It's actually a blend of spices and hence the powdered form is the ready blended mix...or else you could buy the different spices and blend them yourself, rather unnecessary really if you have a decent spice shop in your neighbourhood...

Re: Whole Garam Masala
Hi Stefanie
That is what I thought, however if you refer to Indian Recipes.....by Suresh Nair he lists Garam Masala powder and Garam Masala whole??? in the same recipe- Chicken Biriyani.

Re: Whole Garam Masala
I would think that Suresh would mean the same spices but not yet ground to a powder.
You can either but these spices individually or in a ready mixed bag of spices , for use whole ,crushed or to grind yourself.
Ready ground spices will have lost some of their flavour as soon as they are ground.
