Cheesy peas

Tried Jammie's recipe for cheesy peas yesterday  ...
the result : peas in runny buttery sauce with lumpy parmesan bits  sad
Where did I go wrong  question

My guesses:

Parmesan was bought grated, rather than being freshly grated. Tinsof grated parmesan just aren't the same.

You need to add butter and parmesan the instant the peas are drained, while still hot. Best done in a small pan, and keep pan hot over very low flame as you add butter/cheese.

It was freshly grated parmesan Geoff, I never use any other but your second guess problably comes close , think I misjudged the heat a bit.
