Re: Beloved ethnic foods

Smoked salmon (lox) on a bagel with cream cheese, capers, squeeze of fresh lemon, red onion slices and a garnish of tomato and lettuce.  I don't know if the dish originated in America, but when anyone mentions this dish I think of the Jewish culture in New York and my best friend who is Jewish and introduced the dish to me many years ago.  I still go to the same restaurant he first took me to for this dish.

Don't know if these are considered 'ethnic' but they are some of the best the East Coast has to offer:

From our local area - Blue Crabs from the Chesapeake Bay.
Steamed Maine lobster tail dipped in butter.
Gulf Shrimp, steamed, spiced and dipped in melted butter, served with warm hush puppies and honey.
Blueberry Pancakes with maple syrup, side of bacon.

NY is known for great bagels, ny-style pizza, and corned beef.

Re: Beloved ethnic foods

Well, australia doesn't really have a definative cuisine, we do have something called Mod Oz which describes generally what food is in this country - taking the best of what other cultures have and putting it together in a nice way. There has been a lot of migration to this country in the last 200 years so we have a bit of every cusine which is nice, big asian and greek/italian influences.
