It is using up alot of my cpu time.
Any information?

It's possible that this is spyware or malware.  Some ekrn processes are. 
Do you have a program for spyware protection?

loads they only seem to work when first installed. Anyway none have got rid of that ekrn thing.

No, you don't want to remove it.  I did a little more research, and apparently it's a Windows process that you need when connected to the Internet.  But malware and spyware often use it to sneak up on your system.

It sounds as if it's just something you've got to live with--but do keep scanning your system for invaders regularly.  I had one this past week, and it took all night to figure out how to get rid of it.
