Cheeky chilli chutney

Hello you lovely lot of lovely people. Tomorrow im going to the annual Taunton Flower show in the West country UK.

This year i have entered a class for the first time and did Jamies Cheeky chilli chutney but with one tweak, 4 chillies instead of the usual 8-10 (i think it is by memory) Now i love a hot chutney and when i made it in the past added the full amount but I'm not sure how the ladies of the WI will react to that amount, it does rather blow yer socks off so i calmed it down a tad. I'm naturally very excited by this and by now it would have been judged as the show runs for two days Friday and Saturday and everything was judged early this morning but as i have been working today i cant go till tomorrow, so I wont know if i got 1st 2nd or 3rd  big_smile  or nothing at all   sad   so  crossed it got somewhere.     big_smile

Good luck!!!

I've never been brave enough to cook for anyone but friends and family, let alone be judged.

Let us know how you do. thumbsup

Re: Cheeky chilli chutney

It's over 35 years since I was in Taunton.

Notwithstanding that, the chutney sounded good so I checked for JO's recipe on the net. The only thing that would bother me is the sugar - I wonder what the result would be if you missed that out (or at least reduced it substantially)? Oh, and in my part of the world, I'd probably have to double the number of chilies. shocked  shocked

It's 35 years this month since I was in Taunton. I'd probably ouble the chillies in Jamie's recipe, too, but I completely understand why you didn't for the ladies of the WI wink.

If I remember correctly I worked in Plymouth for about 7 or 8 months in 1978. During that period I visited Taunton a couple of times on the way back north.

Small world.

Re: Cheeky chilli chutney

I think the sugar is needed, I've not done it without before and i have done this recipe a few times now.

Sadly i didint win, silly judges dont know what they are taliking about  hehe.. wink

But i am going to enter it again this time in my hometown flower show (Bridgwater) at the end of the month (Aug) and a carrot cake.

This lady dont give up.....    lol
