BYOB?

Has anybody brought their own bottle(s) of wine to restaurants? I know that most places make their money from booze sales, but is it PC and is it accepted? Just wondering from a restaurants POF.

Re: BYOB?

in oz, you can BYO grog. they charge a 'corkage' fee, though. fair enuff i spose.
my family dont go out to restrants much anymore, its a bit hard with my younger sister and her special diet, but when we did go out, my folks would often take their their own grog.

Re: BYOB?

:f taking our own wine, wil mdntioning it when booking table.

Corkage varies, but never more than a few quid.

Never been refused at a good restaurant, though I can imagine that a "chain" would be more difficult.

Some restaurants without licenses will invite you to bring your own. Others are "dry" on principle and refuse entry to any alcohol.

Re: BYOB?

There are a few restaurants in london that actualy opperate on the idea of bring your own. Never been to one myself, but have seen them on tv and they are a lot cheaper than usual ( a lot of places make more profit on drink than they do on the food). There is even at least one that you order and eat your meal, then pay what you think it's worth !..By all accounts it is making a profit.
  Keep smiling,
      Ady.

Re: BYOB?

That's something I have never heard, lol! When my husband went to Montreal, his clients took him to this restaurant but before they left they made sure they had the wine they wanted... kind of like not forgeting to turn off the lights before you leave the house. I guess it's more common in some places than others.
