Onion Jam or Marmalade or whatever you want to call it....
Hi Foodie Gurus
,
I'm looking for a recipe for Onion Jam or marmalade or relish or whatever else it's called, you know what I mean that sticky, sweet, dark onion jam that you sometimes get in supermarkets, it's great with all types of cheese & well everything really. I'm sure that a home made version would taste a heck of a lot better!
Has anyone got any good recipes they don't mind sharing?
Thanks,

Hi Tew38,
There's been a thread on this recently: http://forum.jamieoliver.com/viewtopic.php?id=22858 Always worth having a quick search as loads of recipes have been posted here!
Enjoy making it, whichever recipe you go for. It's very easy and soooo tasty.

Cool thanks very much
.
I've never made it before, I make jams & chutney's quite regularly, is it the same as making them?

Onion Jam
INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups coarsely chopped onions
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. white pepper
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 tsp. caraway seed
PREPARATION:
In large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat until hot. Stir in sugar, then cook, stirring constantly with wooden spoon, until mixture turns a light caramel brown, about 10 minutes. Add onions, salt and pepper, then cook for 15 minutes, stirring frequently, to brown and cook onions.
Add vinegar and caraway seed and stir well to mix. Simmer over medium heat for 30 minutes until mixture combines and thickens. Cool completely. Store in tightly sealed containers in refrigerator up to 3 weeks. Serve over a Brie cheese that has been heated in a 350 degrees F oven for 10-12 minutes
