I've heard that's a reasonable substitute for a pizza stone, as it is stoneware after all, and the right shape.

I am using a granite piece that is meant as a floor tile as a pizza stone. I am not sure, but think it might have been recommended in Jamie's Italy, too. Just go to your local hardware store and get a granite piece in the size of your oven roast. The recommendation was to get one that's 1 inch thick. Mine is a little thinner and works well, too. I put it on a roast at the bottom of my oven and preheat with the oven on the highest temperature (250°C approx). Pizza takes about 7 minutes and comes out with a wonderfully crunchy bottom. Love it!
(And it was only about 1 or 2 Euros instead of the 20some it would be for a pizza stone from a kitchen ware store or anything le creuset
)

Just a word of caution on using stone in ovens. Stone tiles may have inclusions in them that expand and contract at different rates to the material around it. At best a crack could form, at worst it could explode. Be careful.

Particularely don't use just any stone. The magazine I had the idea from said to make sure it's granite. Those floor tiles are made very regular etc and have to survive cold and hot weather etc when on your terrace without cracking. Also I think the preheating of the stone helps as then the stone gets to heat through slowly.

Im sure I saw on a cooking show that they used a terracotta tile. Or you can pick up a pizza stone for cheap. I soo want a woodfired oven, but Im not allowed lol
