Re: Recipe wanted for sticky ginger buns
Hi Jaynie
This recipe used to belong to my Grandmother. I have always made it as a cake and never buns. I hope its what you are looking for
Sticky Ginger Cake
8oz soft brown sugar
6oz butter
12oz golden syrup or treacle
1lb self raising flour
1 1/2 tspn ground ginger
1 egg
1/2 pt milk
3oz sultanas(optional)
If using treacle replace the brown sugar with caster sugar
Melt butter, sugar and syrup in a pan over a low heat stir until the grainy feeling goes.
Allow to cool
In a large bowl sift the flour with the ginger and make a well in the center, and add the butter/sugar mix, fold in until combined
Mix together the egg and the milk and add this to the cake mix, have a little patience here and keep stirring and gradually the milk will mix in leaving you with quite a sloppy cake mix.
This mix makes one 8" round cake and one 2lb loaf cake or 1 x 9 1/2" round cake.
Bake at 160C for about 1 - 1 1/4 hours.
Leave in the tin for 15 minutes and then cool as usual on a wire rack.

this is a link for a recipe for a ginger citrus ring but you could cut it before baking and make them like cinnamon sticky buns.
This recipe as well as these two for cinnamon buns and rosemarry monkey bread are on my to try baking list.. if anyone tries them out before i get around to it tell me how they are. ![]()

Stu, your kidding right, as if a ginger cake would last that long anywhere.... maybe if I put it in an old biscuit tin & taped it shut & hid it behind the potato box at the bottom of the pantry? Even them i think Oh or son would find it...
How are you? Havent "spoken" to you in ages!
Things here are good... Nakita is in 1st class now & Clayton started preschool this year, just 1 day a week, but still, my baby is growing up!
