I often will put a cup of water and half a cup of vinegar in a pot to boil on the stove and this will get rid of cooking smells. Give it a try.

Re: Help with smell from roasting duck please.....

I found a few tips in the internet:
- heat up on low heat a little bit of cinnamon powder on a frying pan
- boil on low heat some water with vinager, cinnamon powder and clove
- bake some orange and lemon peels

You can buy little stainless steel 'soaps' that work well for removing smells from your hands, and apparently also from the air if you leave a couple dotted around the place.  Kitchen supply shops stock them.

Anna,
I bought one of those, they really work on removing smells from the hands, but I didn't know they were also effective on the air smell. I'll try that! Thanks for the tip!

A friend of mine swears by them.  Apparently they're especially good for cigarette smoke/post-party smells.

When I was little my Dad would often cook Mutton birds, they are a very oily bird. Mum would complain about the smell so he would get an extension cord and take the frypan ouside and cook the birds that way.

He later resorted to cooking them over a rack of water in the oven.

Shammy,
That's a good idea, we do that every year when we cook turkey for the Holidays! Plus, it doesn't let the meat get dry.  wink
