Parmesan Cheese - how do I store it???
Hi
I like to use Parmesan Cheese in my cooking but don't use it often enough to go through a block of fresh cheese. How can I store the leftover cheese so that it still has the same bite to it as when it is first bought? I don't want to be buying the ready-shaved or ready-greated stuff (sorry for swearing Jamie!!) ![]()

Same here.
If you don't use it up quickly enough either find other ways of using it to use it more often, or buy a smaller chunk ![]()

Parmesan is an aged cheese,so keeps very well in a block.
It will last a couple of weeks stored in a sealed plastic bag in the fridge. I buy it in 100gm wedges, which is ideal as it will do me for a fortnight usually.

Can you freeze cheese? If so you could cut it into chunks and freeze them down.

i will usually buy it at a store that will cut it for me.. that way i can get just enough for a week or so.. a good way to store it for longer is to wrap it in parchment paper , then in a not quite closed layer of aluminum foil. it will let the cheese breath a bit without drying out.

yes you can freeze cheese but its better frozen grated...think of frozen pizzas if you can bear too? they have cheese on them and you can buy frozen cheese from the shops too.

I don't think that I would freeze pamasan, I know that you can freeze some cheeses but generally I have found the texture alters.
I store mine in a looseish wrapping in the fridge,it keeps well.
I buy it in wedges and as we use it quite a lot...pasta dishes, things like lasagne where I like to put pamasan between the layers of meat ,pasta ,sauce etc. . Grated onto salads ....etc etc .
