Re: what can i use instead of suet
When looking for a suet replacement in the past I have, with some success,.used grated frozen butter (has to be frozen in order to grate it
). It's not quite the same, but is reasonably passable.
I'm sure there'll be other suggestions, too ![]()

Re: what can i use instead of suet
I once asked my butcher for some, and he was delighted to give it to me instead of throwing it away. I froze it in individual bags, to use as needed. Then I shred it it in Thermomix, straight from the freezer.
Just made Xmas pud and mincemeat - I've been missing the traditional English Christmas fare, and intend to prepare it this year with my kids!

Is there a reason why you don't want to use the suet?

Don't be so squeamish, Kye - use suet - there really is no replacement.
Although I now use prepared suet, I used to get the fat from the butchers and grate it myself. Mind you, I also used to get the soft fat and render it down for dripping to cook chips in ![]()
There is something sold as "vegetable suet" available - but I can't really recommend it.

You can get vegetarian suet, Kye, made from palm oil and rice flour.
Otherwise, the closest alternative is grated frozen butter.

As I have a vegetarian daughter I only use Atora's vege suet now and I really can't tell the difference. I don't know if you can get it in France.

Only that you can't buy shredded suet in some countries. I presume veggies have their own alternatives.
