Re: Pancakes !
i grew up with the idea that pancakes were quite thin and had sugar and lemonjuice sprinkled on them. I was delighted to discover maple syrup, and then to discover savoury pancakes.
But my daughter was ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED when I dished savoury pancakes up to her for the first time. She was four I think, and little miss sweet tooth. She thought it was SACRILEGE to have savoury pancakes!
She likes them now though! ![]()

hey, Jutta!
I saw your post and I made your potato pancakes for dinner tonight. They were good, they worked perfectly, thanks for the heads up about the oil!

Re: Pancakes !
I love the sweet and savoury combo, too, and we often make American style pancakes for brunch on a weekend, but I also like the thinner, UK style pancake - both with sweet (preferably lemon juice and sugar) and savoury fillings/toppings. One of our au pairs used to make the most delicious potato pancakes, so I think I'll have to give your's a go, Jutta ![]()

Re: Pancakes !
I recommend that you serve the potato pancakes with apple sauce, takes it to another dimension in my opinion. I made my own using the recipe in The Naked Chef.

Re: Pancakes !
I enjoy pancakes the most filled with bacon, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, oregano and topped with cheese. For sweet pancakes I prefer the American thick ones with maple syrup.

Re: Pancakes !
My OH is a master at making crepes (thin pancakes)! I have never had them with savoury toppings - I always associate them with sweet toppings. On Tuesday I went to a pancake party and it was really interesting to see how people topped their pancakes! The most common toppings were: Nutella and bananas; Nutella, vanilla ice cream and rasperries (my favourite!) and maple syrup and icecream.
I'm glad it's not pancake day every day ![]()
