It had to be the egg which came first.....2 birds not quite chickens mated, which created the egg that hatched into the chicken.

I am also looking to buy a pair of Ducks next year after seeing my friends.
One hen might not be enough if your rooster is a typical rooster. he could keep hassling her.

Ive had my birds now for just over a year, recently had a week of heavy rain and the chicken run was just slippery mud throughout....any one have any advice. I was thinking of adding some sand and grit to assist in drainage.

We used to put down a ton of straw out in the winter (our rainy season.) It worked great and we had something nice to put in the compost come spring.

We let "the girls" run through the garden in the winter making sure we kept our winter garden off limits with fencing. We had the best garden ever when we had chickens. As soon as I get the old chicken coop repaired, I am going to get some more.

Ive been keeping chickens now for just over a year and love their ways, this year I bought new stock after giving my hens away when I returned too the UK to work last October.
This year Ive bought 2 hens, 2 ducks and a turkey, for pictures and details of the last 12 months, Ive started writting a blog on life in Brittany and life with the birds.

I love chicken and ducks.
I really laughed about turkeys on a show made here about a food critic who went to a farm to grow and make his own. It was a lovely series about his first year. He loved animals, but just couldn't get the turkeys, when he tried to explain it he said that the only thing they did was that when he bent his head sideways and looked at them, they bent their necks and looked back.
Made me laugh!
