But looking at great food pictures also wants me to make this food myself and therefore eat it as well and that could lead to ... something.

Yes I think it may well be 
Just watching Jamie's 15 minute meals show, the final shot of the meal looks so good it makes you want to go out and make it... which is good I spose as I just bought the book! 
But I definetly think you are right... cook book photos are just amazing these days, and so long as I have a picture to make sure mine turns out similar... I'm a very happy girl
