Dealing with spam
Right, good morning all - happy Monday! It's been snowing in London, just to let you know; freezing cold hands and grumpy faces.
I was slightly dreading checking in this morning as I knew the spam situation was likely to have gotten very serious, and lo, I wasn't mistaken. Unfortunately it's just not possible for me to moderate over the weekend, although I see a lot of you have done sterling work keeping on top of it.
Unfortunately, to combat spam, we will have to start approving new users before they can post. We aim to do this as soon as possible.
Thank you all for your patience.

Re: Dealing with spam
That's a bit drastic...
I know of *Another* forum that was being besieged by spam bots, as part of the signing up process, they got rid of the "captcha" spam block thing, which obviously doesn't work, and replaced it with a drag and drop box exercise based on 3 things you need to make a cup of tea...
Result no more spam-bots, only Human spammers, which are easier to deal with.

Re: Dealing with spam
Thank you Merlin if you are the reason the spam has abated!
I think about sites with small or almost no budget and realize they must have to put controls on that make their sites a lot less open than this one.

Re: Dealing with spam
Hello again everyone. Keeping well, I hope?
Eric and I are implementing a couple of super-secret spam-preventing ideas this afternoon - both of which should hopefully be quite effective.
Keep flagging 'em, we're almost there.
Thanks for your patience ![]()
