What to do with leftover brown rice?
I cooked far too much brown rice yesterday and wondered if anyone had any interesting ideas to use it up.

1 onion chopped
1 bell pepper chopped
2 stalks celery chopped
1 lb ground beef
cooked rice
In a little oil saute onions, pepper and celery until veg is translucent. Add beef and brown. Once done add rice to your liking (I like mine 50/50 meat/rice). Salt and pepper to taste.

Hi Sheryl (& Coh!)!
Do you like sushi? If you do, I don't think that using brown rice would matter inside of white rice - unless it isn't sticky enough - maybe another forumer can advise us better please, as, I've never made sushi!
Here's a link I found.... http://www.sushirecipes.org/
My daughters love sushi! I don't fancy it, but I do love RICE!!
My other suggestion would be to maybe make a type of rissoto - do you think that would work with re-heated rice?
Cheers! ![]()

Where did I hear/read once that cooked rice shouldn't be reheated?

Re: What to do with leftover brown rice?
Rice can be dodgy stuff Tistledo as its an ideal medium to grow pathogens, this is a very simple explanation that I have copied over from the NHS website.
http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/can-reheati … egoryID=51
Yes. You can get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. However, it's not the reheating that causes the problem but the way the rice has been stored before it was reheated.
How does reheated rice cause food poisoning?
Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive.
If the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores can grow into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea.
The longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that the bacteria or toxins could make the rice unsafe to eat.
Tips on serving rice safely
Ideally, serve rice as soon as it has been cooked.
If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour).
Keep rice in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.
When you reheat any rice, always check that the dish is steaming hot all the way through.
Do not reheat rice more than once.
........................................................................
I always avoid rice salad at a function when ever I see t there as you dont know how the rice has been treated and I know that there have been quite a few food poisioning outbreaks hat have been assosiated with rice salads.

Thanks for that mummza. I think many on this forum will learn from the NHS advice.

I've eaten reheated rice my whole life and I've never gotten sick. Most cajun dishes have rice. We store it in the fridge.
