Re: swede - what to do with it
I have always understood that in most of England, "swede" refers to the big yellow ones and "turnip" to the little white/purple ones. But according to the Hairy Bikers, they call the yellow ones "turnips" in the North of England.
I tend to call them all "neeps" or "turnips". I know they taste different, but if I wanted to specify I'd just say whether I meant yellow or white.

As I understand it , In the north of England they call them Turnip or swede and swede or turnip depending on their mood at the time...

I suspect this veg is worth being discussed in Strasburgo as a subject of public interest for Europe or at a ONU conference to give it a worldwide known name

Thanks for your reply, Ashen!
Hmmm! Even reading Wiki's info - I'm no clearer - I've eaten swede & I'll re-tract my comment despite Wiki saying otherwise ~ that the cows are eating turnips right now NOT swedes!!!
