FAQs

What are strawberries?

Strawberries are part of the rose family, and are the only fruit with seeds on the outside. In fact, the average strawberry has about 200 seeds, each! While strawberries can grow wild and have been enjoyed since Roman times, the garden strawberry that we know and love today was first bred in Brittany, France, in the 18th century. There are many varieties of strawberries, and they are not always red – some strawberries are white and yellow, too!

When are strawberries in season?

A real seasonal treat, British strawberries are at their juicy best from May to September.

How to store strawberries

Store unwashed strawberries in the fridge, in the original container you bought them in. Remove any mouldy strawberries when you spot them.

What are the health benefits?

Strawberries are a good source of fibre and are packed with vitamin C and folic acid. Roughly 7 strawberries count as one of your 5-a-day.
