Mine always seem quite thick on the bottom, and I was wondering how full should the tins be (say I'm using muffin tins) 1/2 full nearly full or just a little in the bottom?
I'm doing roast beef tonight so want to get them right

I make mine from Jamie's recipe using about 1/2 inch oil in the bottom and I also used Muffin tins bought specifically for this purpose.

I put about a half "dollop" of mixture in each one, trying to get them as equal as possible so they cook evenly, and they rise up above the tin

Hi Geoff - that's just what my kids call it when we make a massive yorkie and fill it with sausages (not cooked in it), loads of onion gravy, then top it with mashed potato. I only call it toad in the hole if I do the sausages in the yorkie mix.
Is there such a thing as a Yorkie Porkie Pie that I don't know about? I'm originally from Middlesbrough but have been out in the colonies a very long time.
Thought only us lot down under were on the forums at this time or day - maybe you are a night owl Geoff - or are you so poor you have to get up before you go to bed (my attempt at Monty Python humour, sorry).

In whch book is this Jamie's recipe, please so I can have it in the kitchen without printing it, and mummza I'd like to cook one "a occhio" like you one day how many have you done to have sufficient experience, my reference chef ssys joking you must do a recipe almost 2500 times then you are sure it comes out quite god
is this pudding something salted then if you use to side dish to meat, and someone adds rosemary .......... I am a bit confused
