Mc cr-aps are copying the organic signs here, making out that they are selling heathier foods.

I wonder if a "pink slime" burger would taste better than this burger? ![]()

It is good news. It makes the news that the Agriculture Dept has just planned to buy 7 million pounds of pink slime to serve in public school cafeterias all the more shocking.

Great work Jamie! Your campaigns are really having an effect but awareness should start at home...I bought some top quality sirloin steak from my butchers last week, one for each of us. They weighted about 180g each and total cost was about €20. My boys loved them and asked if we could eat them again. I asked if they'd not rather have a MacMeal as they would cost around the same...guess what they opted for?
Teaching kids about the financial cost and the health impact of the food options available to them is so important.
Keep up the good work ![]()

Today, Pink Slime, was addressed on the national news here in the USA. We got a listing of companies not allowing pink slime in their ground beef. Not too many on that list, but I think this will change quickly.
Thanks Jamie for indentifying this gross practice in the US meat producing companies.
Is there a home test we can perform at home to confirm the absence of this nasty waste product in ground meat we purchase?
In the words of that old crooked past president of our's, Ronald Reagan, "trust but verify."

@bilcooper the best way is to know your butcher and ask him/her. Also read the package, if it says ground chuck is has to be ground chuck. Tips here at this link.
http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/Articles/M … -beef.aspx
Most stores will use the trimmings from the days butchering to make what is graded as "ground beef" so it may be made from better cuts then say "ground chuck".
I imagine the "pink slime" is being used in fast food applications and preformed patties and other cheap things you may find in the frozen food section mostly.
If you "trust noone" grind it yourself ![]()

... or point to a bit of meat you like and tell them to pit it in the mincer.
