Re: Canned Tomatoes......
In my experience the cans of chopped tommies tend to have more under-ripe and green bits...(Comparing the same brand of chopped/whole tomatoes..)

Re: Canned Tomatoes......
I just find the whole ones more versatile.
Sham my, Woolworths here sell tinned cherry tomatoes as do delis. Handy in the off- season.

Re: Canned Tomatoes......
The only green bits I've ever found were the blossom ends (more yellowy than green), and you get those on the whole ones too.
In fairness, this is probably something that's very dependent on where you are.
eta: I wrote that and then noticed that wine~o is in Dorset. Probably not that much difference between your tinned tomatoes and mine!

If you don't want seeds you have to use passata, and passata's generally bitterer than tinned tomatoes, don't ask me why.
Ok I won't ask then.........
from what I remember on the one occasion I did buy passata, it contained sieved tomatoes and tomato puree...tommy puree can be bitter if not "Cooked out" if you don't believe me try eating it raw...
anyway, if I need passata now, I'll just blitz up a can of whole plum tomatoes with the stick-blender, and pass thru a sieve..

I love the canned cherry tomatoes.. They only started carrying them in stores here a couple years ago. Whole toms are the way to go , I just drop them in a deep bowl and squeeze them into a pulp with my hand instead of worrying about chopping.

You're welcome, Shammy. How are things your way, now? Have been thinking of you
I used passata in tonight's meal. Irritates me that the jar always has about 200 ml/gm than I need. Should have blitzed a can but couldn't be bothered. Froze the extra.

@Maree, woken by an earthquake the other morning and a fire breaking out adjacent to us at the community house yesterday, it's all happening down here atm, but we are fine, thanks. ![]()
