In November, Jamie’s Italian is setting sail, as it opens a restaurant on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Quantum of the Seas.
From Perth to Portsmouth, we have lots of restaurants by the sea, but this is the first to leave shore. It will provide holidaymakers with relaxed dining and a taste of rustic Italy while thousands of miles away.
The Jamie’s Italian team will be bringing fresh ingredients on board and making pasta from scratch every day, just as it does on land. Cooking on a boat has lots of unique challenges – not least finding chefs who are immune to seasickness – so Jamie is super-excited by the project.
“Throughout my childhood, every three years my Dad would save up and we’d go on a Royal Caribbean Cruise,” says Jamie. “I never thought I’d have my own restaurant on board, but Jamie’s Italian is coming to the high seas and I’m so excited to be able to put my little baby on board. Food has always been at the heart of Royal Caribbean and I remember it because I’ve been a guest.”
Jamie and his team of chefs have also come up with a special menu, of course featuring all the classic fish dishes, including prawn linguine, baked salmon and the delicious seafood bucatini, and as with all new Jamie’s Italian openings, he has also commissioned a unique menu design to match the boat.
The restaurant quite literally launches in November 2014. For more details on our lovely food and restaurants go to jamiesitalian.co.uk.
