Story by Alicia Peardon

Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity for the right candidate, in the role of Director: Food, to be a part of one of the most groundbreaking food programmes in the country. In association with Jamie Oliver, The Good Foundation plan to build, equip and run community based Jamie’s Ministry of Food centres, both permanent and mobile, around Australia.

The Ministry of Food Australia concept is simple – provide an engaging community-focused programme that will teach basic cooking skills to non-cooks all over Australia. Based on the successes of Jamie’s Ministry of Food initiative in the UK and Jamie’s Food Revolution USA, Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia is all about encouraging people to go back into the kitchen and cook again.

The Director: Food will join the start-up team at The Good Foundation, to drive the Ministry of Food programme and campaign across all states and territories. The candidate who lands this handcrafted role will live, eat and breathe the Mission of Ministry of Food which is, “to provide an engaging community focused programme that teaches basic cooking skills and good nutrition to non-cooks all over Australia, regardless of age, demographic or ethnicity, to improve their quality of life and health.”

The position of Director: Food has no equivalent in Australia. The individual needs in equal measure exceptional food skills, outstanding administrative skills and engaging interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will be at the heart of the campaign – taking full responsibility for all aspects of the project – and having a great passion for food, cooking, health and wellbeing. The ideal candidate will most likely be a professional chef or senior home economist or a senior hospitality educator.

Jamie Oliver – one of the world’s most high profile and engaging chef and food crusaders – has appointed a team of food experts who will train the winning candidate in the UK for this uniquely bespoke role. This is a once in a lifetime experience for one exceptional man or woman – add to that, the fact you will make a real difference to the health of many thousands of Australians – means you have landed a rare and rewarding role.

Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia will empower people, through giving them the skills to change their eating and cooking behaviour, to make both short and long terms changes to their lives. As the Director: Food you will be able to make a difference at a time when the looming obesity epidemic in Australia can’t be ignored.

“When you know how to cook, you’ve got control over your life and your health. Cooking is one of the most important things we can ever learn in life and with the right sort of information and teaching, absolutely anybody can cook. It’s wonderful, it’s fun, and most importantly, it changes lives,” comments Jamie.
