This weekend all of Australia will be celebrating the moment the British landed at Sydney Cove, way back in 1788. It’s a great time to get together with family and friends, whether you hit the beach or party at home to the Hottest 100 countdown – Aussies know what I’m talking about.
Never one to miss a party, Jamie got straight in the kitchen to cook up something special for the day – a dish you can whip up for a hungry crowd. And what he came up with was this: the Aussie humble pie – a gorgeous beef and ale stew with a cheesy pastry top. Watch Jamie’s video recipe below!
Australia Day is all about celebrating what’s great about Oz, and one of those things is great beer! So Jamie’s humble pie uses Coopers’ Pale Ale from Adelaide, a lovely, light and biscuity beer that’s perfect for the summer and gives the pie filling a delicious fragrant edge and a little lemony character. Apart from that it’s loaded with flavoursome beef skirt, mushrooms and lots of other lovely veg, with a hint of nutmeg and rosemary.
If you’re a beer lover, you can see a review of the Coopers Pale Ale by Food Tube’s beer experts, the Craft beer Channel. It. I’m sure you’re all looking forward to a tipple on Sunday, so make sure it’s a good beer! There are lots of brilliant Australian breweries, including Feral Brewing, Little Creatures and Stone & Wood.
So, to all our lovely Aussie readers, happy Australia Day. Hit the beach with a Sheila, have a brew, throw a shrimp on the barbie and all the other clichés!
